  During an Outward Bound Wilderness backpacking course you will learn many of the skills highlighted below.

 

Campcraft

  • Pitch tents/tarps well enough to stay dry in rain

  • Properly use stoves to prepare tasty meals in appropriate quantities

  • Keep food dry, clean, safe from animals throughout course

  • Demonstrate basic stove repair skills

  • Build a fire in an established site

Lightning

  • Perform lightning drill procedure

Navigation Skills and Group Travel

  • Identify all colors and symbols on a map

  • Orient map, using compass or points on land

  • Practice basic route planning
